Riding the range and the river trail.

A cooler August morning which is great for riding. Midge, Diva and I joined with Eileen, our personal small pet vet, and neighbor along with her Kid, Luigi and Baxter. We rode to the grazing fields and once again saw the resident coyote who just trotted away. I can't remember exactly what started the ruckus but before we knew it her little terrier, very mini Diva, took off after the wily coyote with Baxter for support. We ran behind yelling with the hopes of driving it off but to our dismay and alarm it turned and was now hot on the tails of the hounds. Man, when it's heading towards you and its on the heels of a loved one those coyotes look big. I'm sure that the coyote was within 2 feet of Luigi and as he came over the small rise the coyote dropped off a bit. We then led the dogs on but just as we did another came to follow us. Diva thankfully was not as far out, I'm not sure that she saw the coyote as she was farther away at the start. We did leave the area but under the gleaming eyes of the 2 coyotes as they stood watching from their ridge. We were undaunted but the wiser and rode east bound and came upon Mr. Stafford herding his cows up from the River Valley trail. He had his truck and one rider on an ATV, Eileen spoke with him as she knew him and offered our assistance. Midget and I went for a good ride, thru the river(large stream size now) several times, going in areas where only cows will go to hide from us. We had a great hour herding cattle. We got the herd all back together and up the valley wall. We departed and continued up the east trail of the golf course and home. Diva had numerous bathes in the cool clean river!! What a great way to start the day!!
